TRAFFIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT COURSE BEING HELD THIS MONTH

We will be offering the Traffic Incident Management (TIMS) class on Tuesday August 16th & August 23rd, from 6pm to 10pm.  Attending both days is required for those who want to complete the course.

This is a required class in order to become certified as a Technical Rescuer, Firefighter and/or Driver/Operator effective 1/1/2016.

This course is designed to establish the foundation for and promote consistent training of all responders to achieve the three objectives of the TIM National Unified Goal: responder safety; safe, quick clearance from incidents; and prompt, reliable, interoperable communications. This course will familiarize fire and rescue personnel with the purpose of the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2) and National TIM (Traffic Incident Management) Responder Training Program and how it relates specifically to North Carolina. Participants will learn to recognize and identify the dangers encountered by emergency responders working in or near traffic.

AUGUST 3, 2016 – ENGINE 1 FIRST DUE TO KITCHEN FIRE ON WATER OAK

At 1955hrs, Engine 1 was dispatched as the closest engine to 4000 Water Oak Dr, in the City of Raleigh, for a reported structure fire. Engine 1 arrived first to find smoke showing, and stretched a line into the kitchen, where they extinguished the kitchen fire. Units from the Raleigh Fire Department arrived soon after, and command quickly placed the fire under control.

AUGUST 2, 2016 – ENGINE 4 FIRST DUE TO HOUSE FIRE ON LOON LANE

At 11:45pm, RWCC dispatched New Hope Stations 1 & 2 to 4209 Loon Lane in the New Hope Fire District for a reported structure fire.  New Hope Car 2 arrived first, reporting heavy fire through the roof, and requested 3 mutual aid tankers and WC1 to respond to the scene.  Engine 4’s crew arrived and pulled 2 attack lines and began knocking down the fire in division 1.

Eastern Wake Pumper 2 arrived next and supplied Engine 4’s crew with additional water.  Tanker 10, Engine 1, Tanker 11, Rescue 14 & Tanker 9 arrived soon after, assisting the interior crews with extinguishment and overhaul of the fire building.  Tankers from Eastern Wake, Wendell, Roseville & Wake Forrest arrived, and stood by in case a tanker operations were needed.  The fire was placed under control after 26 minutes.

NEW FULL TIME CAREER FIREFIGHTERS

Aug 2, 2016 – We have completed our recent hiring process, and would like to announce the hiring of two new career Firefighter/EMTs: Starr Webster will be assigned to B shift at Station 1, and Cole Williams will be assigned to C shift at Station 1.

Starr has been a part time firefighter with Wake New Hope FD for the past 3 years, as well as an Fire & EMS Instructor at Wake Tech Community College.  She also worked for as a Captain at the Morrisville Fire Department & EMT at Wake Med Mobile Critical Care Services.

Cole comes to us from the Pilot Fire Department in Franklin County, and is a graduate of the Nash County Fire Academy.  Cole is also the assistant training officer at the Pilot Fire Department, and has served with them for several years.
